Several misleading videos unrelated to the funeral of former minister and senior politician Tofail Ahmed have been circulated on social media. Ahmed passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital on Monday. He was buried in his home district of Bhola after the Asr prayer today. Among the misleading videos, one shows an agitated crowd attacking a military vehicle, falsely claiming it was related to Ahmed's funeral. However, the video is from a 2025 anti-rape protest in Khagrachhari.
Another 26-second video falsely claims, 'Battlefield Bhola city over Tofail Ahmed's funeral.' The video shows police chasing people with batons. Upon verification, it was found to be from a 2025 incident where police chased a sudden rally by Chhatra League and Juba League.
A third misleading video shows several individuals in traditional attire engaging in a brawl, falsely claiming it was Jamaat-e-Islami terrorists obstructing people from attending Ahmed's funeral. However, the video has been online since at least October 2025 and is unrelated to Bhola or Ahmed's funeral.
The Facebook accounts spreading these false claims include 'Gurudaspur Upazila Juba League', 'Shipon Islam', 'Mithapukur Awami League Paribar', 'Bangabandhu's Soldier', 'Ami Awami League', and 'Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina'. These accounts regularly publish politically motivated and misleading content.
