BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed concern over the misuse of social media in politics, warning of a planned conspiracy to destroy political norms. Speaking at a discussion held at the National Press Club on Friday, he highlighted the alarming situation arising from the abuse of social media.

Mirza Fakhrul noted that online bullying and misinformation are being orchestrated in a highly calculated manner to portray politicians in a negative light. He emphasized that this situation is detrimental to healthy political practices and democracy.

The BNP leader cautioned that despite the recent elections, democracy in the country is still at risk due to ongoing conspiracies aimed at creating anarchy. He called for all democratic forces to unite against these threats.

Mirza Fakhrul clarified that the BNP is a liberal democratic party and not a revolutionary one, urging people not to expect any revolution from the party. He also supported a proposal to name a local establishment or road after the late politicians Mahbubul Alam Tara and Mahbubul Haque.
