Kumilla District Council Administrator Moshtaq Mia has accused Asif Mahmud Sajibul Bhuiyan, spokesperson of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) and interim government advisor, of taking 15 crore from the council. He also accused NCP's Southern Region Chief Organizer and current MP of Cumilla-4, Hasanat Abdullah, of taking 10 crore. Mia made these allegations during a discussion meeting and doa mahfil held at Kumilla Shilpakala Academy to commemorate the 45th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder, Shahid Rashtrapati Ziaur Rahman.

Mia clarified that he did not claim the money was taken personally by Asif and Hasanat. Instead, he alleged that the two took special allocations or development funds for their respective upazilas, depriving other upazilas. He stated that Asif and Hasanat had campaigned against discrimination but took special allocations during the interim government, leaving other upazilas without funds.

According to District Council accounts, the 2024-25 special allocation funds went to Muradnagar and Devidwar upazilas, where Asif and Hasanat respectively reside. Other upazilas received minimal allocations that year. Hasanat Abdullah refuted the allegations, stating that the funds were allocated to the upazilas, not individuals, and called for transparency in the use of these funds.

The discussion meeting was attended by various leaders and people from different professions. The main guest, Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid, spoke about the contributions of Shahid President Ziaur Rahman to the nation and democracy.
