Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Golam Parwar has accused the government of being involved in all irregularities and corruption in the power sector. He stated that instead of stopping irregularities, corruption, system loss, and looting of thousands of crores in the name of capacity charges, the government increased electricity prices. Parwar made these remarks during a protest rally at Baitul Mukarram's north gate.
The protest, organized by Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka metropolitan north and south branches, was against the repeated increases in fuel and electricity prices. Parwar criticized the government for breaking its promise not to increase electricity prices within two years, doing so within three months instead. He also accused the government of increasing prices beyond the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission's (BERC) technical committee's proposal.
Golam Parwar criticized the Finance Minister for increasing electricity prices to meet IMF conditions, stating that the government is not a slave to the IMF or World Bank. He accused the government of neglecting public welfare and focusing on looting, referencing the Islamic Bank's previous issues with the S Alam Group. The rally concluded with a procession from Baitul Mukarram's north gate to Shantinagar.
