The Democratic Rights Committee has called for the cancellation of the trade agreement signed with the USA by the previous interim government. The committee submitted a letter to the parliament demanding the review and cancellation of the agreement, expressing frustration over the lack of discussion on the matter.
In a general meeting held at the Communist Party office in Topkhana Road, Dhaka, the committee demanded the review and cancellation of the 'anti-national US trade agreement' during the ongoing session of the Jatiya Sangsad. They also called for increased allocation in the budget to enhance national capabilities and urged an end to India's 'push-in' activities.
The committee expressed appreciation for the successful joint protest held on June 7 in front of the parliament demanding the cancellation of the trade agreement. They called for unity among all citizens and organizations to cancel the agreement immediately. The committee also condemned the recent incidents of Indian citizens being pushed into Bangladesh and called for appropriate international legal action.
The meeting, chaired by Professor Anu Muhammad, was attended by senior physician Harun Ur Rashid, DU teacher Mosahida Sultana, women's rights activist Seema Dutt, cultural activist Kazi Alauddin, labor leader Manas Nandi, cultural activist Ekram Hossain, Sajib Tanvir, researcher Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, student leader Rafiquzzaman Farid, and physician Nazmus Sakib, among others.
