Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Md Nurul Islam, MP, today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of former Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, eminent jurist and veteran politician Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar.

Distinguished Parliamentary Figure

In a condolence message, the Chief Whip said Barrister Sircar was a distinguished parliamentary figure, renowned lawyer and patriotic politician whose contributions to the state and the development of democratic institutions would be remembered with gratitude. He noted that as Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Barrister Sircar discharged his responsibilities with efficiency, wisdom and impartiality, making a significant contribution to strengthening parliamentary democracy in the country.

Irreparable Loss

The Chief Whip stated, "The nation has lost an outstanding statesman and the parliamentary arena has suffered an irreparable loss with his passing." He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and sought Almighty Allah’s mercy for granting him Jannatul Ferdous.

Condolences to Family and Admirers

Md Nurul Islam conveyed his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family members, relatives, colleagues, admirers and well-wishers of Barrister Sircar.

Background and Career

Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar was born on December 1, 1931, in Nayabari village under Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh district. After obtaining MA and LLB degrees from the University of Dhaka, he qualified as a Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn in London, United Kingdom. Returning home, he established himself as a distinguished lawyer at the Bangladesh Supreme Court, specialising in constitutional, civil and criminal law.

Political Career

He served as Speaker of the Eighth Jatiya Sangsad from October 28, 2001, to January 25, 2009. During his long political career, he also held the portfolios of minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs, education minister, state minister for public works, state minister for foreign affairs and state minister for land.
