Awami League leaders and workers can participate in the upcoming local government elections if they fulfill the election-related criteria, said Information and Broadcasting Advisor to the Prime Minister, Jahed Ur Rahman. He clarified that there is no government hindrance for individuals to take part in the non-partisan elections as long as they meet the necessary conditions.
During a regular press conference at the Information Ministry on Tuesday, Advisor Jahed responded to a journalist's query about whether the government would allow Awami League members, whose activities are currently banned, to participate in the local elections. He emphasized that as long as individuals adhere to the non-partisan nature of the elections and fulfill the required criteria, they are free to participate.
Jahed further explained that while the organizational activities of Awami League are banned, the organization itself is not. Therefore, individuals holding positions within the party can still participate in the elections as private citizens, provided they meet the election criteria. He stressed that the government has no reason to obstruct anyone from participating in the elections if they fulfill the necessary conditions.
