Hyo Nam-jun, who plays a wealthy character in the series 'My Royal Nemesis,' has become an overnight sensation. Just a few years ago, he was relatively unknown, but now he is one of South Korea's emerging stars. His journey to success, however, was not easy.
Hyo's rise may seem sudden to many, but the reality is different. With only six years in the acting industry and a discreet personal life, he has always been a somewhat hidden star. Born into a farming family, Hyo grew up with a twin brother. From a young age, he dreamed of making a unique mark in people's hearts, initially through music.
During his high school years, he prepared to study music but later realized that hard work alone might not secure his desired place in the music industry. In a 2024 interview, he shared that he understood for the first time that not all goals can be achieved through effort alone. Following the advice of an acquaintance, he turned to acting and enrolled in the acting department of South Korea's prestigious Sungkyunkwan University.
Hyo Nam-jun began his professional acting career in 2019, initially appearing in minor roles. Despite working in well-known productions like 'Missing: The Other Side,' 'Sweet Home,' and 'Night in Paradise,' he did not catch the attention of mainstream audiences.
His career took a significant turn in 2024. After starring in the series 'Your Honor' and 'When the Phone Rings,' he gained widespread attention. In 'Your Honor,' he played the role of a chaotic son of an influential businessman, and in 'When the Phone Rings,' he portrayed a reliable colleague. His performances in these contrasting roles propelled him to new heights.
In 2025, Hyo Nam-jun established himself as a leading man with prominent roles in major productions. He first played the lead in 'A Hundred Memories.'
Finally, in 2026, he achieved his career's greatest success with 'My Royal Nemesis.' In this series, he plays a wealthy man who falls in love with an eccentric woman named Seo-ri. This role has transformed him from a supporting actor to a full-fledged romantic lead.
Looking ahead, 'My Royal Nemesis' is set to conclude on June 20. No new projects have been officially announced for Hyo Nam-jun, but he has received an offer to play the lead role in the drama adaptation of the popular webtoon 'Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid.'
