Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has proposed the removal of the existing 5% regulatory duty on the import of musical instruments such as guitars, pianos, and violins, along with their accessories. Additionally, the import duty on cinematic cameras and projector parts has been reduced from 15% to 5%.

The Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA) President Hamin Ahmed thanked the government for withdrawing the regulatory duty on musical instruments, noting that this is the first time such a duty has been reduced. Masuma Rahman, Managing Director of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation, described the duty reduction on cinematic equipment as excellent news for the film industry, as it will lower the cost of purchasing cameras.

The government also plans to support theater and cultural heritage, including building international-standard studios for films and OTT platforms and introducing performance-based grants for entrepreneurs in this sector.
