Prime Minister's Education and Primary and Mass Education Adviser Mahdi Amin announced that the government plans to make technical and vocational education mandatory from grade six to make the education system contemporary, skill-based, and job-oriented. He mentioned this during a press conference held at the Secretariat on Monday regarding various activities of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
Mahdi Amin stated that the education system in Bangladesh will be restructured so that students acquire the skills necessary for real-life situations rather than just relying on certificates.
He said, 'We want students to advance equally in sports, culture, leadership, technology, and work skills, not just be limited to exam results or certificates.' As part of the education system reform, several important subjects are being added to the new curriculum, including sports education, cultural education, technical and vocational education, and a new subject called 'Learning with Happiness.' Through these subjects, students will develop moral values, civic responsibility, social behavior, and real-life skills.
Mahdi Amin also mentioned that a third language education will be emphasized to keep up with the current world, and opportunities will be created for students to enhance their international communication skills within the existing education framework.
He informed that the government plans to supply a large number of tablets to primary and secondary level students in the coming years. He said, 'We will need around 1.4 million tablets. This is a major project for primary and secondary students. The plan has been included in the upcoming fiscal year's budget.'
