Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mona announced today that the KDA is implementing a sustainable and well-planned development strategy to transform long-neglected Khulna into a modern, environmentally friendly, and livable city. Speaking at the inauguration of a tree plantation program at Kalpataru Ground in Daulatpur, Mona emphasized that the KDA is committed to developing Khulna as a green and sustainable city, beyond just constructing roads and physical infrastructure.

Mona revealed plans to remove the abandoned Kalpataru Market in Daulatpur to make way for a mini stadium, supported by National Parliament Whip Rakibul Islam Bakul, MP. He noted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the authorities to formulate and implement a sustainable development plan for the overall development of the neglected Khulna region, a vision the KDA is working relentlessly to achieve.

Describing tree plantation as a commitment to ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for future generations, Mona urged citizens, youths, and voluntary organizations to actively participate in the campaign. He referenced the government's target of planting 25 crore trees across the country over the next five years and called upon everyone to plant at least one tree in their homes, courtyards, or any available open space, stressing that public participation is essential alongside government initiatives to build a greener and more environment-friendly Bangladesh.

Later, the KDA chairman distributed sewing machines and clothing materials among poor families with financial support from philanthropist Shamshad Atik Kishore. He also inaugurated separate tree plantation programs at Daulatpur Mohsin Secondary School and Daulatpur Mohsin Girls' Secondary School.
