The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a Tk 13.20 crore project to upgrade internet connectivity at the University of Rajshahi (RU). The project, titled 'Strengthening Internet Connectivity in the University of Rajshahi (RU),' will be implemented under the UGC's Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project. It aims to provide high-speed internet access across the university's academic and administrative buildings, residential halls, dormitories, and staff residential areas.
According to an RU press release, the improved network will facilitate faster communication and more efficient exchange of information and research data with institutions both domestically and internationally. This enhancement is expected to strengthen education and research activities at the university.
The university stated that the project aligns with the government's commitment to expanding internet access and reaffirmed RU's dedication to ensuring reliable high-speed internet and other essential facilities on campus. The release emphasized that development projects are institutional initiatives and should not be attributed to any individual or organization.
RU also noted that recent attempts by various groups to claim credit for university development projects are undesirable. This project is a crucial step towards modernizing the university's infrastructure and supporting its academic and research missions.
