Khulna University (KU) has taken a significant step towards conserving native fish species by releasing fry of indigenous tengra and shing fish. The fry were produced at the hatchery of KU's Fisheries and Marine Resource Technology (FMRT) Discipline under a research project aimed at conserving native fish species and strengthening research capacity.
The release programme was inaugurated by Khulna-1 lawmaker Amir Ejaz Khan, who released the fry into a pond adjacent to the university's administrative building. The fry were later released into different water bodies across the campus.
