Chittagong University (CU) launched its year-long 'Nazrul Year' celebration today with a seminar and musical programmes. The event was held at the Social Sciences Faculty Auditorium, organized by the university administration.
Key Figures Attend
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan attended the programme as the chief guest. Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin and Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration Prof Dr. Mohammad Saleh Jahur were present as special guests.
Celebrating Nazrul's Legacy
Dr. Al-Forkan highlighted Nazrul's multifaceted identity, stating, 'Nazrul cannot be confined to a single identity. He is the poet of love, separation, the battlefield, equality, religious harmony, youth, protest, social reform, and freedom.'
Pro-VC (Academic) Dr. Al-Amin noted, 'Nazrul belongs to every section of the nation and its people. Whenever injustice prevails in society, his poems naturally return to guide and inspire us.'
Academic and Cultural Programs
The programme was chaired by Pro-VC (Admin) Prof Dr. Md. Safiqul Islam and moderated by Mishkatul Momtaz, chairman of the Music Department. The keynote paper, 'National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam: Patriotism, Humanism and Mass Awakening,' was presented by Dr. Mohammad Nurul Amin, former Prof of the Bangla Department at CU.
Dr. Nurul Amin discussed Nazrul's profound patriotism and its impact on mass awakening during the liberation struggles of colonial India, Bangladesh, and the July Uprising of 2024.
The paper was discussed by Bangla Department Chairman Prof Dr. Mohammod Anwar Sayed, Prof Dr. Taslima Begum, and Director of the CU Nazrul Research Centre Prof Dr. Mohammad Farid Uddin.
Musical Performances
Renowned Nazrul Sangeet artiste Ferdous Ara performed at the musical programme. Students from the university's Dramatics Department and Music Department also presented special cultural performances.
