Bangladesh received US$35.343 billion in remittances during the first 363 days of fiscal year 2025-26 (July 2025 to June 28, 2026), registering a 17.6 percent year-on-year growth compared with US$30.047 billion received during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. This robust increase underscores the vital role of expatriate Bangladeshis in supporting the national economy.

Monthly and Daily Inflows

According to the latest data, expatriate Bangladeshis sent US$2.586 billion in remittances during the first 28 days of June, up 1.8 percent from US$2.540 billion received during the same period in June 2025. On June 28 alone, remittance inflows amounted to US$133 million. These figures highlight the consistent flow of funds from overseas workers.

Economic Impact

The sustained double-digit growth in remittances throughout FY2025-26 reflects the strong contribution of Bangladeshi migrant workers to the national economy. Remittances provide crucial support to the country's foreign exchange reserves, external sector stability, and domestic consumption. With only a few days remaining in the fiscal year, total remittance inflows have already surpassed US$35 billion, highlighting one of the strongest annual performances in recent years.

Significance for Bangladesh

This significant rise in remittances is a positive indicator for Bangladesh's economy. It not only boosts foreign exchange reserves but also enhances the purchasing power of recipients, driving domestic consumption. The consistent inflow of remittances also plays a critical role in stabilizing the external sector, providing a buffer against economic shocks.

Future Outlook

As Bangladesh approaches the end of fiscal year 2025-26, the strong performance in remittance inflows is expected to continue supporting the economy. The government and financial institutions will likely focus on further facilitating remittance channels and ensuring the smooth transfer of funds to maximize their economic impact.
