Governor Mostaqur Rahman addressed allegations of being a loan defaulter during a post-budget press conference held at Osmani Smriti Milanayoton in the capital on Friday. He clarified that his environmentally friendly factory never closed, exports continued, and worker salaries were always paid on time. He mentioned that the initial loan of 150 crore taka at 4% interest increased to 9-11% later, and delays in repayment occurred due to issues like the COVID-19 pandemic. He confirmed that 100 crore taka of the loan has already been repaid.
During the press conference, the Governor also stated that approximately one-third of the funds in the country's banking system have been stolen, posing a significant challenge to stabilizing the banking system.
