Finance Minister Announces 7.5% Inflation and 6.5% GDP Growth Targets

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced that the government aims to reduce inflation to 7.5% and achieve a GDP growth of 6.5% in the upcoming fiscal year. He made the announcement during the budget speech in the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.

The Finance Minister stated, 'Amidst geopolitical instability and global economic challenges, our budget focuses on stability, investment, production, employment, and fairness. We believe that through the implementation of these plans and strategies, Bangladesh will become a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.'

In May, the country's point-to-point inflation rate increased to 9.42%, with food inflation at 9.06% and non-food inflation at 9.71%. According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, the GDP growth for the 2025-26 fiscal year was 4.14%.
