The cabinet has approved a 9.38 lakh crore budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The approval was given during a special cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tareq Rahman at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday. The meeting began at 10 AM and concluded at 1 PM. Following the meeting, Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atikur Rahman Rumon informed journalists that the budget proposal had been approved by the cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Tareq Rahman. After receiving the President's signature on the finance bill, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury will present the budget in the Jatiya Sangsad at 3 PM today. This marks the first budget presented by the Tareq Rahman government in parliament. During the interim government period, when there was no parliament, government expenditures and a revised finance ordinance were approved through an advisory council. After the President's approval, the ordinance was published in the Gazette, and it became effective immediately. Following the July uprising, the then-interim government's finance advisor Salehuddin Ahmed presented the budget proposal on June 2. In the absence of parliament, his budget speech was broadcast on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.
