The proposed budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 allocates 300 crore for housing for the families of martyrs and disabled July fighters. This allocation is part of an ongoing project, not a new initiative.
In the budget speech, the Finance Minister announced that monthly allowances of 20,000 taka for the families of martyrs and 20, 15, and 10 thousand taka for injured individuals in categories 'A', 'B', and 'C' respectively will continue. The Minister also proposed increasing the number of allowance recipients from 14,656 to 16,513.
On December 1, 2025, the ECNEC meeting approved a project to construct 1,560 flats for injured July fighters, with a cost of 1,344 crore taka. The interim government, led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, also initiated a separate project to provide permanent housing for the families of martyrs in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement-24, with a cost of 761 crore taka. This project, to be completed by 2028, was also approved on December 1, 2025.
Thus, the interim government under Professor Muhammad Yunus initiated a 2,105 crore taka project for housing the families of martyrs and disabled July fighters. The BNP government has allocated 300 crore taka in the current proposed budget to continue this project.
