Two woodcutters were electrocuted while cutting a tree in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district on Wednesday morning.

Two woodcutters were electrocuted while cutting a tree in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred in Krodolgacha village under Harirampur union of the upazila. The deceased were identified as Azim Uddin, 55, and Golam Mowla, 35.

According to locals, Golam Mowla along with Azim Uddin went to cut down a tree. During their work, the tree fell onto a nearby power line. When they attempted to remove the tree, the duo came into contact with the live electric wire and were electrocuted, dying on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindaganj Police Station Muhammad Mojammel Haque confirmed the incident and stated that necessary legal procedures would be taken. The tragic accident highlights the dangers faced by woodcutters and the need for safety measures when working near electrical lines.

Such incidents underscore the importance of proper training and safety protocols in hazardous occupations. In Bangladesh, where many rely on such work for livelihood, ensuring safety standards is crucial to prevent fatalities.
