A truck driver was killed in a collision on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Gazipur early this morning.

A truck driver was killed after his goods-laden truck lost control and crashed into another truck parked beside the road in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur district early this morning. The deceased was identified as Sirajul Islam, 40, son of late Manik Sarkar of Chittipara village under Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha district. Sub-Inspector Shafik of Konabari Highway Police confirmed that the accident took place around 4.30 am in Boardghar area on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the rear of a stationary truck on the highway. Firefighters from Konabari Highway Police rushed to the scene and rescued Sirajul. He was taken to a local hospital where the attending physician declared him dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zafar Ali Khan of Konabari Nawjor Highway Police Station said police recovered the body and seized both trucks involved in the accident. The body will be handed over to the family after the completion of the necessary legal formalities.
