A weeklong tree fair and plantation campaign commenced today in Jamalpur district, aiming to promote environmental protection through extensive tree planting. The event, organized by the District Administration and the Forest Department, is held at the compound of the Office of the Assistant Commissioner (Land) in the town. Local lawmaker Advocate Shah Md Wares Ali Mamun inaugurated the fair as the chief guest, emphasizing the critical role of tree plantation in safeguarding the environment.
Mamun, who is also the Assistant Organizing Secretary of BNP, highlighted that Prime Minister Tariq Rahman's 31-point charter underscores the importance of tree planting across the country. He urged participants to ensure proper care for the planted trees to maximize their benefits. The fair features 30 stalls showcasing various types of trees, providing an opportunity for the public to engage in the initiative.
A discussion meeting was held at the fair, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Yusuf Ali. Additional Superintendent of Police Rakibul Islam, Medical Officer Dr. Mubashshira Huq, and Mymensingh Divisional Forest Officer Kazi Muhammad Nurul Karim were among the speakers. They discussed the significance of tree plantation and the need for community involvement in environmental conservation efforts.
The fair is expected to raise awareness about the benefits of tree plantation and encourage local residents to participate in similar initiatives. Through this campaign, the organizers hope to foster a culture of environmental stewardship among the community members.
