Dr Zubaida Rahman, Prime Minister's wife and Vice-President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, emphasized that the courage, fortitude, and humanity displayed by teachers, students, and parents following the Milestone School and College tragedy will remain an inspiring example for the nation. Speaking as the chief guest at a memorial discussion, she noted the rare historical example of courage, compassion, and sacrifice witnessed during this difficult time.

A Nation in Mourning

On this day in 2025, a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into Milestone School and College in Uttara, killing 36 people, including 28 students. Dr Zubaida Rahman began her speech by honoring all those who lost their lives, expressing deep respect and sympathy for the bereaved families. She prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the injured.

Inspiration in Adversity

Dr Zubaida highlighted the morale of the injured teachers and students as a source of inspiration. She noted that the nation will never forget their courage and determination in the face of horrific experiences. This fortitude, she said, will provide strength in any future crises and inspire others to support those in suffering.

She also thanked various assisting organizations, including the Fire Service, Doctors Association of Bangladesh, Ziaur Rahman Foundation, and National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, for their support during the crisis. Additionally, she acknowledged the assistance provided by friendly countries such as the UK, China, India, and Singapore following the accident.
