Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam has underscored the necessity of expanding bilateral cooperation with France in digital technology, telecommunications, science, research, innovation, and skilled human resource development. This initiative aims to further solidify the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries.
Minister's Remarks
Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam made these remarks during a courtesy call by French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Sérée-Charlet at the Bangladesh Secretariat. In a ministry press release, the minister highlighted the potential of an Earth observation satellite in disaster management, agriculture, land management, and environmental conservation.
Earth Observation Satellite
The minister noted that the government is evaluating the feasibility of establishing an Earth observation satellite tailored to the country's needs. He stressed the importance of international cooperation in this endeavor, particularly with France, which has extensive experience in satellite technology.
French Support
French Ambassador Jean-Marc Sérée-Charlet expressed France's readiness to support Bangladesh in the feasibility study, technology transfer, training, and capacity building for the Earth observation satellite project. He also mentioned the satellite's effectiveness in sectors like agriculture, disaster management, land and urban planning, border security, and maritime surveillance.
Joint Research and Skill Development
The ambassador further stated France's interest in conducting joint research with Bangladesh's universities and developing skilled human resources to maximize the use of the technology. Both sides expressed optimism about expanding existing cooperation and elevating future partnerships in science and technology.
