Earlier in the tournament, Bangladesh defeated Uzbekistan 3-2 in their opening match. They then faced a 3-0 defeat to hosts Pakistan but bounced back strongly by edging Kazakhstan 3-2 and defeating Nepal 3-2, setting up their semifinal clash against Uzbekistan.
