The government announced a major recruitment drive in the health sector to fill long-standing vacancies and address manpower shortages in public hospitals. In the budget speech for the fiscal year 2026-27, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced the immediate recruitment of 5,000 MBBS doctors. Additionally, the recruitment of 1 lakh health workers has begun to ensure quality and people-oriented healthcare services nationwide.

The Finance Minister stated, 'I am pained to say that due to the negligence and lack of proper planning in the implementation of vaccination collection and administration by past governments, outbreaks have occurred across the country, leading to heartbreaking situations such as child mortality. To address this situation, the government is taking swift action to provide measles-rubella vaccines to almost all children within the first 100 days.'

Considering the employment and empowerment of women, 80% of these massive recruitments will be filled by female workers. The Finance Minister also mentioned, 'Opportunities for higher education and professional development in nursing and midwifery are being increased by offering bachelor's and master's courses. To create employment for educated unemployed youth and meet local and international demand, the government has also launched a four-month general caregiver training program.'

He added that a new MBBS curriculum will be introduced, incorporating an integrated modular approach, modern clinical education system, and AI-based medical knowledge and technology.
