A mobile court fined Mother Care General Hospital in Narsingdi Tk 2 lakh for various irregularities. The mobile court, conducted by the district administration, found the hospital operating without a registered physician on duty during an inspection near Bhelanagar Bus Stand in Narsingdi Sadar upazila.

Key Violations Identified

The inspection revealed several critical violations. The hospital failed to display a High Court-mandated notice prohibiting disclosure of the sex of an unborn child outside the ultrasound room. Evidence was also found that surgical procedures had been performed in the absence of the responsible physician.

Additional Irregularities

Other irregularities included two non-functional operation theatre lights, a laboratory technologist unable to produce required academic and professional certificates, and pathology test fees being charged above government-approved rates. The hospital's X-ray room also lacked a lead-lined radiation protection door, while its hospital, diagnostic centre and trade licences had not been renewed for three years.

Corrective Measures and Warnings

The mobile court imposed and realised the Tk 2 lakh fine under the Consumers' Right Protection Act. The authorities concerned were instructed to take corrective measures and warned of stricter legal action if the irregularities recur. Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md Masud Rana conducted the drive, with assistance from Dr Sanjoy Kumar Saha of the Narsingdi Civil Surgeon's Office.

Why This Matters for Bangladesh

Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations in hospitals is crucial for protecting patients and maintaining public trust in the healthcare system. The fine imposed on Mother Care General Hospital highlights the importance of regular inspections and enforcement of regulations to uphold standards across the sector.
