Five people were injured in a chaotic rush of fans trying to see Chinese actor Zhang Ling-He at a promotional event in Nanning on May 31. The incident occurred when a glass wall at the entrance of a shopping mall broke due to the pressure of the crowd. The event, which was part of a promotion for an eyewear brand, had to be canceled for safety reasons.
Thousands of fans had gathered outside the mall long before the event was scheduled to start. The 28-year-old actor was set to participate in the promotion. As the entrance doors opened, fans surged in, causing a stampede. The glass panel shattered under the pressure, but the crowd continued to push in. Security personnel and staff quickly intervened to control the situation.
Local media reported that five people were injured by the broken glass. They were taken to the hospital, though their injuries were not serious. The chaos extended inside the mall as well, with fans crowding multiple floors, escalators, walkways, and balconies. Due to escalating safety concerns, the organizers ultimately decided to cancel the in-person event and host it online instead.
Following the incident, a statement on Weibo from the actor's side expressed regret and explained that the event was canceled due to concerns for the safety of the attendees.
