For nearly two decades, White Richards led a double life. By day, he was a celebrated male model, gracing the ads of renowned fashion houses and earning millions. By night, he slept on a thin mat in the apartment of a secretive organization called Internal Values.

The organization was led by Frederick Von Meyers, who claimed to be an extraterrestrial messenger from the star Arcturus. This unbelievable story is the focus of HBO's three-part documentary series 'Bring Me the Beauties,' which has sparked global debate since its release on June 1.

Richards first encountered Von Meyers in 1978 during a family vacation in Nantucket. Initially drawn to the older man's charismatic personality and intriguing discussions about the universe, Richards soon found himself under Von Meyers' control. The leader exploited Richards' desire for recognition, gradually tightening his grip through psychological manipulation and public humiliation.

Internal Values began as a health and self-improvement movement, promoting a fruit and vegetable-based diet, regular sunbathing, and abstinence from drugs and alcohol. However, beneath these seemingly benign practices lay a web of control. Members were subjected to 'life readings,' where Von Meyers used astrology charts to identify and exploit their weaknesses.

Von Meyers' charisma and the organization's early success in promoting wellness and discipline attracted many, including educated and successful individuals. His claims were bolstered by references in popular New Age literature, enhancing his credibility. The organization grew into a lucrative business, selling training courses, supplements, and expensive gemstones.

Despite his public success, Richards funneled a significant portion of his earnings into the organization. He was also forced to cut ties with his family. As Internal Values evolved, it became increasingly oppressive, with members spying on each other and engaging in public humiliation sessions known as'slamming sessions.'

The organization's true nature began to unravel after Von Meyers' death in 1990. It was revealed that he was actually Freddy Myers, a Brooklyn-born Jewish man with no extraterrestrial connections. The documentary 'Bring Me the Beauties' delves into this shocking story, raising questions about manipulation, control, and the dark side of fame.
