The traditional kite fair in Sonniastoly, Khetlal Upazila, Joypurhat, drew a large crowd on Friday. Held by the Tulsiganga River, the fair featured various kites, food stalls, and household items. The event, which has a history of several centuries, saw people of all ages flying kites and engaging in friendly competitions. The fair also included the sale of bamboo fishing tools, seasonal fruits, sweets, and wooden furniture.
Locals mentioned that the fair, centered around the Sonniastoly temple, has been a tradition for hundreds of years. The highlight of the fair is the kites, with 'China Chil' kites being the most popular. Visitors from nearby districts also attended the event, which transformed into a community gathering. The fair committee president noted that the event has been ongoing since ancestral times, attracting traders from various regions.
