The court has granted permission to exhume the body of actor Salman Shah to determine the true cause of his death. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the order on May 24 following an application by the investigating officer. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's prosecution department sub-inspector Shah Alam informed about this on Wednesday.

The investigating officer, CID inspector (unarmed) Mo. Ziaul Morshed, applied on May 20 for permission to exhume Salman Shah's body, conduct an autopsy, and prepare a report, along with the appointment of an executive magistrate for this task. The application stated that the plaintiff, Mohammad Alamgir Kumkum, filed the request on behalf of Salman Shah's mother, Neela Chowdhury.

According to the plaintiff, on September 6, 1996, Neela Chowdhury, her husband the late Kamruddin Ahmad Chowdhury, and their younger son Shahran Shah visited Salman Shah's residence in New Eskaton's Eskaton Plaza. There, his wife Samira Hoq and domestic helper Abul informed them that Salman Shah was sleeping. They later returned to their home on Green Road.

The plaintiff further stated that some time later, around 11:30 AM, a call from Salman Shah's residence informed them of his deteriorating physical condition. Upon rushing to his home, they found Salman Shah unconscious on his bed. He was first taken to Holy Family Hospital and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead. After the autopsy, he was buried in the cemetery adjacent to Hazrat Shahjalal (RA)'s mausoleum in Sylhet. An unnatural death case was filed at Ramna Police Station on the same day.

The police application also mentioned that nearly 29 years after the incident, a murder case was filed at Ramna Police Station on the court's directive. To properly investigate the case, it is necessary to exhume Salman Shah's body, conduct an autopsy, prepare a report, and review the relevant reports.
