Alexa Demie, known for her role in HBO's Euphoria, recently shared that she feared losing roles if she refused to perform intimate or nude scenes early in her career. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Demie explained that she believed not participating in such scenes could result in losing the character. She noted, 'If I didn't agree to do these scenes, maybe I wouldn't get the role. No one ever told me this, but I was very young and didn't know much.'
Demie plays the character Maddy Perez in Euphoria, a role that has gained popularity over three seasons. She recalled feeling uncomfortable during the shooting of a montage scene in the first season where Maddy cheats on her boyfriend Nate Jacobs. Demie emphasized, 'I'm not saying I don't like sexuality. I think it can be beautifully presented on screen. But after doing those scenes, I realized I wasn't comfortable with them.'
After expressing her discomfort to the producers, Demie found a supportive response. 'When I spoke up, everyone was very sympathetic. No one pressured me. From then on, I didn't have to do those things again,' she said. This experience taught her the importance of setting boundaries and having them respected in the industry.
