Professor Kazi Mohammad Mahbobor Rahman of the Political Science Department has been appointed as the acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Dhaka University (DU). The appointment was confirmed in an official letter signed by the university's acting Registrar, Munsi Shams Uddin Ahammad, on Monday. The position became vacant following the appointment of the former acting Dean, Professor Md. Mehedi Hasan Khan, as a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.

Under Article 17(2) of the First Statutes of the Dhaka University Order, 1973, Professor Kazi Mohammad Mahbobor Rahman has been appointed to fill the interim role. The appointment takes effect from July 27. He will serve in this role until an elected dean assumes office or for a maximum period of 90 days, whichever comes earlier.

Professor Kazi Mohammad Mahbobor Rahman currently also serves as the Director of the Center for Advanced Research in Social Sciences at the university. His appointment as acting Dean is expected to bring continued leadership and stability to the faculty during this transitional period.

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Dhaka University is one of the oldest and most respected faculties in the country, playing a crucial role in the development of social science research and education in Bangladesh.
