Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has proposed comprehensive tax and VAT exemptions for all types of freelancers, content creators, and startup institutions. This includes full VAT exemption for income from freelancing and content creation. Additionally, the minister announced a BDT 500 crore startup fund for the IT sector and long-term VAT exemptions for startups until June 30, 2035.

During his budget speech in the Jatiya Sangsad, the Finance Minister highlighted the potential of the IT and telecom sectors to become a driving force of Bangladesh's economy. Currently contributing only 1-2% to the GDP, the government aims to increase this to 10% within the next five years.

The proposed BDT 500 crore startup fund will be utilized to encourage female and youth entrepreneurship and women's development. The minister also announced that all freelance income, not just IT-related, will be exempt from tax, encouraging freelancers to bring their income through legal banking channels.

Content creators on platforms like YouTube and Facebook will not have to pay income tax on their earnings. The minister stated, 'I am proposing to make income from all types of content creation tax-free. Additionally, I am proposing to make the turnover tax zero percent for startups, innovative initiatives, and technology-based businesses.'

The government has also proposed long-term VAT exemptions for startups until June 30, 2035, including a 15% VAT exemption on local services, imported services, and rental of space and facilities for startup operations. This is expected to reduce operational costs for young entrepreneurs, allowing them to invest in business quality and expansion.
