A three-member delegation from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), a French development agency, recently visited the Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority (BPPA) to observe the country's electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system. The visit focused on understanding the system's operations and key functionalities.
Meeting with BPPA Director
During a meeting with BPPA Director Mohammed Salah Uddin, the AFD delegation emphasized the importance of harmonizing procurement processes for AFD-financed projects in Bangladesh with the national e-GP system. The Director briefed the delegation on the mandatory registration process for using the e-GP platform.
e-GP System Overview
Since the introduction of the e-GP system in 2011, a total of 24 development partners have registered with the platform, reflecting its growing acceptance among international financing agencies. The delegation was given a comprehensive demonstration of the e-GP system by Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan, Team Leader of the Enhancement, Operation and Maintenance (EOM) of e-GP.
System Features and Benefits
The presentation highlighted the system's end-to-end digital procurement processes, operational features, and its role in promoting transparency, efficiency, accountability, and competition in public procurement. The e-GP system is designed to streamline procurement activities, reduce corruption, and ensure fair competition among bidders.
Significance for Bangladesh
The visit underscores the importance of the e-GP system in enhancing the efficiency and transparency of public procurement in Bangladesh. By aligning AFD-financed projects with the national e-GP system, Bangladesh can ensure better coordination and integration of development efforts, leading to more effective use of resources and improved project outcomes.
