The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), in collaboration with the SME Foundation, organised a two-day joint training programme titled "Training on Capital Raising by Public Offer for SME Entrepreneurs". The aim was to enhance SME entrepreneurs' understanding of raising funds through the capital market. The training, held on July 28-29 at the Multipurpose Hall of the BSEC, saw the participation of 40 SME entrepreneurs.
Programme Inauguration and Objectives
BSEC Commissioner Md. Nafiz Al Tariq inaugurated the programme. He highlighted the vital role small and medium enterprises play in driving the country's economic growth. Tariq noted that the training would provide entrepreneurs with a clear understanding of how to expand their businesses by raising capital from the stock market. He explained that while businesses can be financed through bank loans, such financing is generally short-term and requires regular repayment of principal and interest, creating financial pressure on entrepreneurs. In contrast, raising capital through the capital market offers an alternative avenue for long-term business expansion.
Training Content and Sessions
Deputy Managing Director of the SME Foundation, Farzana Khan, delivered the welcome address. She said the training was designed to provide practical knowledge about the entire process of raising funds from the capital market. Experienced trainers from the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, Dhaka Stock Exchange, Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL), and issue management firms conducted different technical sessions during the two-day programme. Certificates were distributed among the participants at the end of the training.
