Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman today distributed prizes among the 10 winners of the 'Bangla QR Reels Making Competition' at a ceremony held at the central bank's headquarters in Dhaka. Speaking as the chief guest, the governor highlighted that the use of Bangla QR has been made mandatory for transactions since July 1, 2026, a significant step towards expanding digital payments across the country. He noted that this initiative reduces the risks associated with carrying cash and makes financial transactions easier, faster, and more secure. The governor also mentioned that the competition was organized to raise public awareness and encourage the wider adoption of Bangla QR in everyday financial transactions. Bangladesh Bank has instructed all banks and Mobile Financial Services (MFS) providers to ensure the use of Bangla QR by their customers. Deputy Governors of Bangladesh Bank, the head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), executive directors, directors, and other senior officials attended the event, which concluded with a photo session featuring the winners and Bangladesh Bank officials.

Significance of Bangla QR

The introduction of Bangla QR is part of Bangladesh's broader strategy to enhance digital financial services. By mandating the use of Bangla QR, the central bank aims to mitigate the inconvenience of handling counterfeit, torn, or damaged currency notes. Governor Rahman expressed optimism about the country's future adoption of even more advanced technologies for transactions, emphasizing that the world is increasingly relying on digital technologies for financial activities.

The competition to create reels about Bangla QR was a creative approach to engage the public and promote the new payment method. The reels, short video clips, were used to convey the benefits and ease of using Bangla QR in daily transactions. This initiative is expected to foster a culture of digital payments and reduce dependency on cash.

The event underscored the central bank's commitment to modernizing the financial sector and improving the overall transaction experience for users. With the support of all banking and MFS providers, the widespread adoption of Bangla QR is anticipated to streamline financial processes and enhance security in transactions.
