The government has appointed Udbatulo Bary, Cumilla Metropolitan BNP President, as the Chairman of the newly formed Cumilla Development Authority (CUDA) for one year. The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification on Thursday regarding this appointment. According to the notification, Bary will serve as the Chairman (Grade-2) of CUDA under Section 8(1) of the Cumilla Development Authority Act, 2026. He will have to relinquish any other profession, business, or government/non-government organizational affiliations as a condition of his appointment. Bary will serve for one year from the date of joining, with other terms of appointment to be determined through a contract. The notification, signed by Public Administration Ministry Undersecretary Golam Rabbani, states that this order has been issued in the public interest.
Cumilla Development Authority was recently established by the government to manage planned urbanization, infrastructure development, and land management in Cumilla city and its surrounding areas. Bary, a resident of the Kandirpar area in Cumilla, was elected unopposed as the Cumilla Metropolitan BNP President in 2025. Prior to this, he served as the Convener of the Cumilla Metropolitan BNP from 2022. In his student life, he led the Cumilla Victoria Government College Student Union and was the President of the Cumilla City Student League at the beginning of his political career.
In response to his appointment as Chairman, Bary said on Friday that he wants to work with everyone's advice and cooperation to transform Cumilla into a planned and modern city. He believes his long-standing political and social involvement with the people of Cumilla city and district will help him in performing this duty. Bary also mentioned that after the formal assumption of his duties on the upcoming Sunday, the activities of the authority will commence as per the plan.
