In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Khulna arrested two individuals with 22 kilograms of cannabis on Monday night. The arrestees, identified as Md Rubel Hawlader, 31, from Morrelganj upazila in Bagerhat, and Md Simbad Chowdhury, 28, from Rupsha upazila in Khulna, were apprehended during a special operation led by Assistant Police Commissioner (Khulna Zone) Md Shafiqul Islam and Officer-in-Charge of Labanchara Police Station Syed Mosharraf Hossain.
The operation took place around 8:30 pm on Sachibunia Bishwaroad on the Highway. Police searched the suspects and recovered 22 kilograms of cannabis, packed in 11 parcels, each weighing about two kilograms and wrapped with adhesive tape. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is approximately Tk 8,80,000.
A case has been filed at Labanchara Police Station against the two individuals under the Narcotics Control Act. The police are continuing their investigation to identify the source and destination of the narcotics, as well as other members of the trafficking network.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb drug trafficking in the region. The successful seizure and arrests highlight the commitment of the police to maintaining public safety and combating illegal drug activities.
