Two children drowned in the Padma River in Chapainawabganj on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred near Bakher Ali village in Sadar Upazila.
The deceased children are Karima (8), daughter of Jahurul Islam from Bakher Ali village, and Israt (7), daughter of Kajal Ahad from Chakpara village in Chorbagdanga Union.
Local police and villagers reported that around noon, Karima and Israt went missing while bathing in the river with other children. Despite immediate rescue efforts by locals, they could not be found. The Fire Service diving team later recovered their bodies.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station, Ikramul Hossain, confirmed the drowning and the recovery of the bodies.
