The government has appointed senior journalist Md Saidur Rahman as Minister (Press) at the Press Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, India.

The government has appointed senior journalist Md Saidur Rahman as Minister (Press) at the Press Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, India. The Ministry of Public Administration made the appointment on a contractual basis for one year. Rahman must relinquish any work-related ties with any profession, business, or government, semi-government, or private organization. The terms and conditions of the appointment will be determined through a separate contract. The appointment has been made in the public interest.

Saidur Rahman is currently serving as Political and Election Editor of the Daily Ittefaq and also as the newspaper's Unit Chief of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ). A graduate and post-graduate in Mass Communication and Journalism from Dhaka University, he began his journalism career in 2005 as the Dhaka University correspondent of the Daily Dinkal before joining the Daily Ittefaq in 2007.

During his student life, he served as Vice-President and later General Secretary of the Dhaka University Journalists' Association. He also held leadership positions in the Reporters Forum for Election and Democracy (RFED), serving as President in 2023 and Organising Secretary in 2018.

Over nearly two decades in journalism, Saidur Rahman has primarily covered national politics, elections, and governance. He reported on the parliamentary elections held in 2014, 2018, and 2024 and earned recognition for his reporting on electoral affairs and democratic governance. He was also known for his active role during the July-August 2024 student movement.

Rahman received several awards for professional excellence, including the Shah Chishti Helalur Rahman Award from the Dhaka University Journalists' Association, the National Professor Sufia Ahmed Award from the Dhaka University Alumni Association, the Best Reporting Award from Education Watch, and the Journalist Hossain Zakir Memorial Award from RFED.
