Monsoon wind has finally entered the country, spreading to certain areas. The rain has increased since Sunday, and the weather department predicts rain in some regions today, particularly where the monsoon wind has influence. However, the overall temperature in the country is not expected to decrease significantly today. The weather forecast predicts rain in Dhaka and surrounding areas by 1 PM today, though the likelihood of rain in the capital is low.
The monsoon wind entered the country through Teknaf in the southeastern region last Saturday, about a week later than usual. However, its arrival does not guarantee rain throughout the country. The new wind must contend with the active western low-pressure system, which may reduce rain for a few days. The current rain is due to the western low-pressure system.
The weather department reports that the monsoon wind has spread to the southeastern and southern coastal regions. Meteorologist Kazi Zebunnesa told Prothom Alo that the wind has reached Chittagong, nearby areas, and the southern coastal region of Satkhira. Rain is expected in these areas today due to the wind's influence. Sporadic rain is possible elsewhere, but the temperature is unlikely to drop significantly from yesterday.
Yesterday, the highest temperature in the country was recorded in Rajshahi at 36.5°C. Two other locations also recorded temperatures of 36°C. However, the weather office did not declare a heat wave because these temperatures were isolated. A mild heat wave is declared when the temperature reaches 36°C or higher in any area.
Kazi Zebunnesa informed that isolated high temperatures may occur in some areas today. The weather office forecast for Dhaka and surrounding areas from 7 AM to the next hour predicts rain or thunderstorms. However, the likelihood of rain in Dhaka is low.
