A man was tragically killed after being crushed between two buses in Dhaka's Chankharpool area on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:15 PM in front of the new building of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police reported that the victim, Joy Deb Pandey (38), a distributor for Royal Laboratories (Herbal Medicine), was attempting to board a bus when the accident happened.
Shahbag Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Mo. Khalek Mia told Prothom Alo that the two buses involved, both from Moumita Paribahan, have been taken into police custody. The driver of one of the buses has been arrested. The victim's body has been kept in the morgue at Dhaka Medical College.
Witnesses said Joydeb was trying to board a bus when it started moving. Another bus from the same transport company, trying to pass, accelerated and trapped him between the two vehicles, causing severe injuries. Locals rescued him and took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending physician.
Joy Deb's colleague, Mizanu Rahman, said, 'Joydeb was my friend and colleague. We both work as distributors for the same company. He was returning home to his rented house in Jatrabari after finishing business in Shahbag. We later learned he had been injured in a road accident and rushed to the hospital, where we found out he had died.'
Family members informed Mizanu Rahman that Joy Deb has a two-month-old son. His family is currently residing in their village home.
