The European Union (EU) has expressed interest in hiring skilled workers from Bangladesh, while the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) aims to enhance cooperation in higher education. High-level delegations from both organizations met with Prime Minister's Advisor and Press Secretary Mahdi Amin at the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday. The discussions focused on safe migration, skilled workforce development, trade, investment, and international cooperation in higher education.
During the meeting with the EU delegation, Bangladesh highlighted its initiatives to develop skilled human resources to meet the demands of the international labor market. The government's plans for expanding technical and vocational training and creating new employment opportunities abroad were also discussed. The EU delegation, consisting of Henrik Nielsen, Aleksandra Domanska, Baiba Zarina, and Jurate Smalskite Mervil, emphasized the need for expanding legal migration opportunities and strengthening bilateral cooperation in this sector.
On the same day, the ACU delegation, including Secretary-General Professor Colin Riordan, Regional Engagement Lead Ikita Pokharna, and others, met with Mahdi Amin to discuss enhancing higher education, technology, and international academic cooperation. The meeting focused on improving the quality of higher education, expanding research, promoting technology-based education, and strengthening connections between universities.
Mahdi Amin outlined the government's policies and Prime Minister Tareq Rahman's vision for education, emphasizing the commitment to building a modern, skilled, and technology-driven education system that can enable students to compete globally and contribute to a knowledge-based economy. The ACU delegation expressed interest in supporting the development of Bangladesh's higher education sector and expanding research-based education. They also expressed optimism about further expanding cooperation between Commonwealth universities and Bangladeshi universities.
