The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has set a target to cultivate transplanted Aman paddy on 2,72,270 hectares of land in Dinajpur district during the current Aman season. Early varieties of the transplanted Aman (T-Aman) have already been planted on about 5,200 hectares of land. As the Aman cultivation season reaches its peak, farmers across all the upazilas of the district are busy preparing seedbeds. The DAE officials said that all necessary preparations have been completed to achieve the cultivation target.
According to the sources, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) has stocked adequate quantities of chemical fertilizers to meet the farmers' demand. By July 10, Urea, DAP, TSP, and MOP fertilizers had been supplied to all 126 registered fertilizer dealers across the district's 13 upazilas based on their requirements. Each dealer has three sub-dealers under their supervision. The department has assured that there will be no shortage of fertilizers during the Aman cultivation season.
Deputy Director of the DAE Dinajpur Md. Afzal Hossain told BSS that a target has been set to cultivate transplanted Aman on 2,72,270 hectares of land during the current Kharif-II season. Of the total area, 237,720 hectares will be brought under high-yielding varieties, 25,350 hectares under hybrid varieties, and 9,200 hectares under local varieties. The production target has been set at around 800,000 tonnes of rice.
He said favourable rainfall during the current monsoon season is expected to support smooth Aman cultivation. Between July 5 and July 18, farmers planted early Aman varieties on nearly 5,200 hectares of land across the district. Seedbeds have been prepared on 10,850 hectares to facilitate the successful Aman cultivation during this season.
Officials noted that the district recorded a bumper Boro harvest earlier this year, producing around 820,000 tons of rice. With harvesting and threshing of Boro paddy now complete, farmers have shifted their focus to Aman cultivation, with planting of early varieties beginning in early July. The department expressed optimism that, if favourable weather conditions continue, Aman cultivation may exceed the target, resulting in a bumper harvest this season.
