SM Shafiqul Alam, President of Khulna BNP, has been appointed as the 32nd Chairman of the Khulna Development Authority (KDA). This marks the first civilian appointment to the position in 28 years, as previous chairmen were military officers. The appointment was announced by the Public Administration Ministry on Thursday.
According to a notification, Alam has been appointed for a one-year contract under the Khulna Development Authority Act, 2018. He must relinquish any other professional, business, or organizational affiliations. The previous KDA Chairman, Brigadier General Jahangir Hossain, has been withdrawn and reassigned to the Armed Forces Division.
The last civilian to hold the KDA Chairman position was Khandaker Abu Mohammed Abdullah in 1998. Alam expressed his commitment to transforming Khulna into a modern, planned, eco-friendly, and investment-friendly city through public participation and collective efforts.
