Chittagong City Corporation is implementing two new projects to address waterlogging in the city. The draft cost of these projects is 3,871 crore taka, which may increase after the feasibility study report is finalized. The projects include maintenance and rehabilitation of 36 canals and development and rehabilitation of 21 canals. The total cost of ongoing projects to address waterlogging in Chittagong is 14,389 crore taka, of which 10,408 crore taka has been spent so far.
Project Details
The project for maintenance and rehabilitation of 36 canals is estimated to cost 322 crore taka. The project includes dredging, removal of silt, transportation of waste, purchase of equipment, protection of canal boundaries, and environmental management. The total length of these canals is 110.33 kilometers. The project for development and rehabilitation of 21 canals is estimated to cost 2,578 crore taka. The project includes construction of retaining walls on both sides of the canals, land acquisition, installation of tidal regulators and pump stations, relocation of utility pipelines and roads, environmental management, and beautification.
