A seven-day Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2026 began in Bogura today with a call to inspire public participation in achieving the government's target of planting 25 crore trees over the next five years. The campaign, themed 'Let's Beautify the Country Through Tree Plantation, Bangladesh First,' is being jointly organized by the Bogura District Administration and the Social Forestry Division from July 21 to July 27. The inaugural ceremony was held at Shaheed Titu Auditorium in the town at 10:00 am.

Importance of Tree Plantation

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Md. Toufiqur Rahman, who chaired the event, urged people to plant more trees to ensure environmental balance, address climate change, and support sustainable socio-economic development. He emphasized that widespread tree plantation is essential to increase oxygen levels and reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Referring to the government's goal of planting 25 crore trees over the next five years, he called on every citizen—particularly children—to plant and nurture at least one tree.

Fair Features and Participation

Among those present at the event were Deputy Director of the Local Government Division Razia Sultana, Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud, Divisional Forest Officer of the Bogura Social Forestry Division Md. Matlubur Rahman, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Khurshid Alam, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Sohel Md. Shamsuddin Firoz and Administrator of Bogura City Corporation M. R. Islam Swadhin. According to the organizers, the fair features participation from local and regional nursery owners. A total of 39 stalls have been set up, displaying and selling approximately 150,000 saplings of fruit, timber, and medicinal plants. The fair is expected to provide visitors and tree enthusiasts with affordable and convenient access to quality saplings for rooftop gardening and family-based afforestation initiatives.
