Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents thwarted an attempt by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push 12 people into Bangladesh through the 148/3-S border pillar in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia on Friday morning. The group, consisting of four men, four women, and four children, is currently stranded in a jute field near the zero line on the Indian side of the border.
Local resident Nil Chand, who lives near the border, provided them with biscuits, bananas, bread, milk, and other dry food. He mentioned that the women were crying, and one woman is pregnant. The children, ranging from 10 months to four years old, were hungry, and everyone was exhausted from the intense sun.
Pragpur Company Commander Subedar Asaduzzaman led BGB members in maintaining strict surveillance at the border. Announcements were made over the microphone stating that illegal push-ins would not be allowed. Kushtia 47 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony confirmed the push-in attempt and stated that a flag meeting between BGB and BSF would be held later in the day.
Pragpur Union Parishad Chairman Ashrafuzzaman also confirmed the incident, stating that local people and BGB jointly prevented the group's entry. BGB's Pragpur Company Commander Subedar Asaduzzaman mentioned that the flag meeting scheduled for Friday afternoon was postponed by BSF, with no new date provided. He added that the 12 individuals would remain in the jute field overnight.
