The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) called for an end to push-ins by the Border Security Force (BSF) during the 57th Director General-level border conference held in New Delhi on June 8. BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui led the Bangladeshi delegation, while BSF Director General Praveen Kumar headed the Indian side.
The conference addressed several border-related issues, including push-ins, border killings, drug and arms smuggling, illegal immigration, human trafficking, counterfeit currency and gold smuggling, separatist and armed terrorist activities in the hilly regions, and unauthorized construction and infrastructure restrictions along the border.
BGB expressed deep concern over recent push-ins by BSF, which they said violated joint guidelines, integrated border management plans, previous DG-level agreements, and existing bilateral policies and protocols. BGB urged BSF to immediately cease such activities and follow established bilateral repatriation processes for identified Bangladeshi citizens.
Both sides agreed to prioritize existing bilateral arrangements and procedures in their duties. They also committed to strengthening joint patrols, increasing surveillance, enhancing information exchange, and intensifying joint efforts against cross-border criminal networks.
The conference concluded with a joint commitment to maintain peace and stability along the India-Bangladesh border, zero tolerance for cross-border crimes, and plans for the next DG-level conference in Dhaka in November.
